Matera, capitale Europea della cultura per il 2019 ospita uno delle mie ultime creazioni, Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & SPA, una struttura ricettiva interamente ricavata da un complesso sistema di locali scavati nel tufo.

Questo albergo diffuso sorge sul Sasso Caveoso e nasce dalla contrapposizione tra un luogo fortemente storicizzato e un progetto di interior design e illuminotecnico contemporaneo. Arredi candidi, dalle forme fluide e luci soffuse si inseriscono con rispetto nella superfici scavate, dando vita ad un intreccio tra passato, presente e futuro.

Nelle camere, nel ristorante e nel centro benessere lo spazio diventa nelle mie mani un foglio bianco su cui continuo a scrivere storie di contemporaneità. Attraverso questo luogo magico il presente-futuro irrompe nella memoria storica con uno sguardo sempre rivolto alle radici.

Così ho immaginato un dialogo continuo con le chiese e gli insediamenti rupestri del Parco della Murgia Materana, davanti a cui Aquatio idealmente si affaccia.

Rewriting Matera:  Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & SPA

Matera, the European capital of culture for 2019 hosts one of my latest creations: Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & SPA, an accommodation structure completely obtained from a complex system of rooms excavated in the tuff.

This famous hotel is located in the Sasso Caveoso and takes shape from the contrast between a highly historicized place and a contemporary interior design and lighting project. White furnishings, fluid shapes and soft lights fit respectfully into the excavated surfaces, creating a blend of past, present and future.

Inside the rooms, the restaurant and the wellness centre, in my hands the space becomes a white sheet constantly filled with contemporary stories.Through this magical place, the concept of present-future breaks into the historical memory without forgetting its roots.

That’s how I imagined an ongoing dialogue with the churches and the rocky settlements of the Murgia Materana Park, in front of which Aquatio ideally faces.
