Il mondo postCovid19 sarà una realtà diversa da quella a cui siamo abituati e dobbiamo ancora capire insieme cosa accadrà. Potremo avere un mondo migliore ma siamo noi a doverlo costruire e a fare sì che questa tragedia, almeno, ci insegni qualcosa. Non dovrà essere la paura a soffocarci ma il coraggio a guidarci, osare intelligentemente ed investire nella ricerca e nella cura. 

Il mio approccio al design ed all’architettura non sarà diverso: pro-gettare significa gettare avanti, guardare avanti. Costruire ponti tra ciò che c’è e ciò che deve ancora arrivare. Ogni opera è  il frutto delle esperienze vissute, influenzata dalle dinamiche politiche, economiche e comportamentali che abbiamo attorno. Ogni opera è espressione della società che l’ha generata. Progettare significa analizzare i bisogni e le necessità dell’uomo per dare risposte concrete. Significa costruire strumenti per un futuro migliore. 

A cambiare, quindi, non sarà la mia filosofia ma il tema del progetto. Sto – e dovremo farlo insieme – ripensando gli oggetti per risolvere le nuove problematiche di carattere funzionale. Molti materiali saranno diversi, efficienti e sicuri. Cambiano gli argomenti del progettare e su questi rifletteremo insieme, per ottimizzare le situazioni e dare risposte chiare al mercato.

La meravigliosa villa a cui presto darò vita in Sicilia per la Famiglia Parlapiano è un esempio di questo modo differente di concepire un progetto per il futuro che unisce all’estrema nitidezza concettuale, il tema della “nuova sicurezza”, dell’estremo comfort, e il desiderio di superare arcaici stereotipi. È una casa eppure non sembra, è un’opera d’arte da vivere. Fluidità, alternatività intellettuale, sostenibilità animano il suo esistere affinché nessun valore ecceda e nessuna risorsa sia sprecata. 

HOW WILL BE “THE PROJECT”AFTER COVID-19?

The post-Covid19 world will be a different reality from what we are used to, and we still have to understand together what will happen. We may have a better world but first, we have to build it and make possible that this tragedy teaches us something. It must not be fear that suffocates us but the courage to guide us, give intelligently and invest in research and care.

My approach to design and architecture will be no different: designing means looking ahead. Building bridges between what is there and what is yet to come. Each work is the result of lived experiences, influenced by the political, economic and behavioral dynamics around us. Each work is an expression of the society that generated it. Designing means analyzing human needs and requirements to give specific answers. It means building tools for a better future. Therefore, it will not be my philosophy that changes but the theme of the project.

I am – and we will have to do it together – rethinking objects to solve new functional problems. Many materials will be different, efficient and safe. The topics of design change and we will reflect together to optimize situations and give clear answers to the market.

The beautiful villa that I will soon give life to Sicily for the Parlapiano Family is an example of this different way of conceiving a project for the future. It combines to an extreme conceptual clarity the theme of the “new security” of extreme comfort and desire to overcome archaic stereotypes. It is a house and yet it does not seem: it is an artwork to be experienced. Fluidity, intellectual alternativity and sustainability animate its existence so that no value exceeds and no resource is wasted.
