Libertà è possibilità di scegliere. Ma scegliere non significa seguire l’istinto o l’io primordiale senza remore. Significa utilizzare l’intelligenza e la ragione per risolvere le situazioni complesse e trarre beneficio dalla realtà, per noi, per gli altri, per il mondo attorno. 

Porre limiti alla propria libertà per garantire quella degli altri è il processo più arduo, scomodo e complicato ma indispensabile per chi vive all’interno di una società. Il termine società deriva dal latino sŏcĭus, nomecon cui veniva chiamato l’alleato, il socio, il compagno. 

Non si può trarre soltanto bene cieco ed immediato da chi ci sta accanto. È necessario costruire un processo, un percorso equilibrato che conduce alla crescita di entrambi, attraverso un tentativo continuo di incontro e apprendimento.

Lo stesso è per la società: non un contenitore estraneo regolato da principi stabiliti da qualcun altro. Siamo noi che con i nostri comportamenti formiamo lo spazio e la collettività in cui viviamo rendendola efficiente, funzionale, accogliente, bella. 

Indossare la mascherina significa rispettare l’altro, la sua libertà. Ed è anche l’altro che indossandola, a sua volta, rispetta me proteggendomi dal contagio. Indossare la mascherina è soltanto un piccolo gesto necessario per la costruzione di una società migliore, coesa, responsabile.

Freedom means the possibility of choice

Freedom is the possibility of choice. But to choose doesn’t mean to follow the instinct or the primitive ego without worries. It means to use the intelligence and the reason to solve complex situations and take advantage of reality, for us, for others, and for the world around us. 

Restricting your own freedom to guarantee the freedom of others is the hardest, most uncomfortable, and complicated part but it is necessary for those who live in a society. The term society comes from the Latin word sŏcĭus, a noun with which it was called the alley, the partner, the companion. 

We can’t only take blind and immediate good from those who are close to us. It is necessary to build a process, a balanced path that leads to the growth of both through a continuous attempt to meet and learn. 

The same goes for society: it is not a strange box controlled by stable principles decided by somebody else. We create the space and the collectivity we live in with our behaviors, making it efficient, functional, welcoming, and beautiful. 

To wear a mask means respecting others and their freedom. And it is also the other who, wearing it, respects me protecting me from the infection. To wear a mask is just a small gesture necessary to build a better, cohesive, and responsible society.
