Di lui si è detto di tutto perchè Diego Armando Maradona è stato molto più di un calciatore, è stato un simbolo che ha unito milioni di persone provenienti da ogni parte del mondo.
Il suo viso, i suoi piedi, il suo sorriso sono icone riconoscibili ovunque, segni della grandezza dell’uomo che è stato, e della passione che ha messo nell’inseguire i suoi sogni.
Non sono appassionato di calcio, ho cominciato a seguire le partite dei ragazzi qualche anno fa perchè mio figlio Jalel è un giovane giocatore della Fiorentina.
Maradona però l’ho visto giocare lustri or sono, quando non sapevo nemmeno quanti fossero i giocatori in campo! 
Mi ricordo il 1986 ed il goal che ha fatto la storia e vincere il mondiale all’Argentina.
Ho visto nei suoi occhi la forza della passione, la determinazione che porta a raggiungere i sogni, a trasformarli in realtà.
Mi ricordo Diego Armando Maradona e Napoli. L’ammirazione che i tifosi e i compagni di squadra avevano per lui ha superato ogni confine. 
Maradona è stato un uomo che si è messo in gioco, che è caduto tante volte e che altrettante ha provato a rialzarsi, mostrando la fatica e le contraddizioni che hanno caratterizzato la sua vita. 
Un uomo con un talento enorme, buono, un eroe tragico morto troppo presto e all’improvviso,  lasciando un senso di vuoto ed incompiuto che soltanto la vista dei video delle sue partite in campo riesce, per un attimo, a placare. Maradona ci ha mostrato tanti volti negli ultimi 40 anni e le sfaccettature che può assumere il valore.

Un ultimo grande applauso voglio fartelo anch’io Diego perchè, anche se non ti ho mai conosciuto, so quanto irruente può essere la passione, con che forza la realizzazione di un sogno sconvolge la routine ed ammiro la determinazione che ho sempre visto nei tuoi occhi mentre stremato raggiungevi il tuo obbiettivo: goal!!!
Rimarrai un pezzo di storia, l’omaggio più grande che ti possa essere fatto sarà portarti nei nostri ricordi, rendendo vero il sogno che ogni uomo desidererebbe si realizzasse varcata la soglia del NON conosciuto: l’immortalità, una parte di noi legata alle nostre gesta che rimarrà “eterna” sinchè non si spegnerà nei pensieri di tutti noi.

Everything was said about Diego Armando Maradona, because he was much more than a footballer, he was a symbol that united millions of people from all over the world.
His face, his feet, his smile are icons recognizable everywhere, signs of the greatness of the man he was, and of the passion he put into pursuing his dreams.
I am not passionate about football, I started following the boys’ games a few years ago because my son Jalel is a young Fiorentina player.
However I saw Maradona playing many years ago, when I didn’t even know how many players there were on the field! 
I remember 1986 and the great Maradona’s goal that made Argentina win the World Cup.
I saw in his eyes the strength of passion, the determination that leads to dreams, to transform them into reality.
I remember Diego Armando Maradona and Napoli. The admiration that the fans and teammates had for him crossed every border. 
Maradona was a man who put himself on the line, who fell many times and tried to get up again, showing the fatigue and contradictions that characterized his life. 
A man with enormous talent, a tragic hero who died too soon and suddenly, leaving a sense of emptiness that only the sight of the videos of his matches can, for a moment, appease. 
Maradona has shown us so many faces in the last 40 years and the facets he can take on the value.

A last big applause I want to give you too, Diego, because, even though I’ve never met you, I know how impetuous passion can be, how strong the realization of a dream upsets the routine and I admire the determination I’ve always seen in your eyes while exhausted you reached your goal!
You will remain a piece of history, the greatest homage that can be done to you is to bring you into our memories, making true the dream that every man would want to come true when he crosses the threshold of the NOT known: immortality, a part of us linked to our deeds that will remain “eternal” until it is extinguished in the thoughts of all of us.
