A partire dall’antica Grecia, con lo sviluppo della filosofia, si è iniziato a parlare di metafisica: ciò che va al di là della fisica, della quantità numerica.

L’approccio occidentale ha sempre conferito una connotazione negativa alla componente materiale considerandola vile e impura. Il bello ed il buono risiedono nella perfezione dell’idea platonica.

La filosofia orientale, al contrario, considera positivamente la materia e il rapporto dell’uomo con essa. L’essere umano è un microcosmo nel macrocosmo del mondo e sviluppa un’energia che influenzerà e sarà influenzata a sua volta dall’ambiente circostante, generando equilibrio e riqualificando tutti i suoi elementi. La pesante assenza di sistemi architettonici di spessore contenutistico, di ambiti involucrati ed involucranti anti-banali, non permette all’uomo di vivere in luoghi intrisi di energia e significato. Nel progetto architettonico concepito come vera e propria opera d’arte ogni oggetto ha la capacità di divenire camaleontico, di assumere significato in base a ciò che gli attribuiamo per poi cambiare rapidamente in altro.
